Problem solving

An operations manager with an International Steel Manufacturer looked at a critical problem in an attempt to understand why it existed, and what could be done to resolve it. The manager recognised he was actually contributing to making matters worse, how and why that was, and what he could do to deal with the problem. He then took action based on his findings, which he continued to find successful.

Decision making

An MD of a very successful public relations company was faced with a pressing decision with a deadline and an important personal dilemma.  A comfortable conclusion and decision to both the business and personal issue was reached within 20 minutes.

Business Integration

A firm of business consultants following recent purchase of an IT company were looking strategically at how best to move the business forward. In response to a specific objective, thirteen key points were highlighted for the group to focus on which then enabled them to make constructive progress in achieving that objective.

Stress reduction

An SME owner rated as very important his need to know what the next steps were in developing the business. It became clear that in fact this was not true. The direction in which the business was moving was correct and was working. There was greater potential and more opportunities than could be seen at that moment. It was therefore more important to focus on, and observe the process, and to allow developments to occur naturally, than to limit the outcome by having to know or determine what the next step was.

Strategic thinking

An entrepreneur who had sold one business and was in the process of creating and expanding another looked at possible strategies which resulted in a particular idea being reconsidered, this time with a new perspective that made sound business sense. This particular idea had previously been dismissed.

Communication

Discussion with a group of solicitors resulted in one of them talking about his role in the company, which he found constructive in clarifying his thinking. In addition, his colleagues who were observers in this process, and who had worked with him for several years, now saw him from an entirely different perspective, not recognising previously how passionate he was in what he was trying to achieve within the organisation.

A Senior Personnel Manager discovered why it is that she was frequently indecisive especially leading up to a key or important deadline, and that this was not in fact the weakness she perceived it to be. 

Raising business awareness

A director of a training company became aware that attention was required to developing strategies to move the business forward, and that up to that point in time, insufficient emphasis had been given to this matter.

A Professor recognised an approach he could introduce that might have a significant impact in assisting someone build self-esteem.
